Also called Kaibutsu Oujo or Princess Resurrection in the US, this looks like a promising new harem-anime (in contrast to a lot of the trashy harem-animes which have been airing lately). Compare this with Murder Princess--what are the chances that two animes starring sadistic sword-wielding-killer-princesses would start airing within a week of each other? But it can happen. In Japan.

Zombie Powder is an old manga-series created by Tite Kubo, the author of Bleach, though it was cancelled after volume 4 because it wasn't popular enough, and because "the author was in a state of severe emotional trauma when he wrote it" (WTF does that mean? Is that supposed to be a bad thing?). But of course I wanted to give it a read anyway.

The series is fair, about the quality of your average anime-series. The whole collect-all-the-rings-journey concept was pretty stupid, and is pretty common in anime—all that happens is that the main-characters wander from one town to another, beating one badguy after another in one arc after another, and each arc is only 3 or 4 couple episodes long. Gamma’s past seemed pretty generic too (though the series was cancelled before it could be revaled, he probably belonged to some criminal organization, killed some woman, felt sorry, left the organization, got his inner-monster under control, etc.)

Gamma, the main character, is pretty cool, cooler than Ichigo I hate to say, and his abilities were a lot cooler and more creative than Ichigo's lame sword-energy-blasts. The rest of the characters are pretty stupid though. The little kid is annoying, and Gamma’s partner is stupid-looking too. It may be difficult to believe (because the women in Bleach are so hot), but all the women in this series are pretty ugly. The problem is that they all have male-faces. Seriously, just take Ichigo, change his hair-style and give him big-breasts, and you have Zombie Powder’s main-big-breasted-woman right there—when I first saw her, that was my first thought (actually, in one cel, where you can’t see her breasts, I didn’t even realize it was a woman).

The abilities used in this series are pretty damn cool though—the volume-4 fight was pretty cool, aside from the fact that everyone died far too fast, and the fights were of the usual form where the badguy pulls out some really cool unbeatable ability, and then the good-guy simply beats them anyway, without any explanation at all as to how they were beaten. For example, Gamma somehow randomly cuts an uncutable guy, and then Smith just shoots his opponent from behind randomly by moving really fast randomly. The fights were sometimes cool, this aside. The series was also more violent and disturbing than Bleach, which I like.

Overall, I wouldn’t say that this series is bad enough to be cancelled, there are plenty of series far worse than this which still run for a long time, though I’m glad it did get cancelled, since then he created Bleach. The series might have gotten cool eventually, just like how Bleach sucked for the first 16-episodes or so.

Memo to myself: update the Bleach hentai-CGs--there's bound to be at least a few hentai pics of them!

One thing which has been bothering me for a while is all the sky-walking / flying which has suddenly started occuring this saga. There's no explanation for how they can do it either--apparently everyone could always do it. I don't remember them doing any flying in the Soul-Society saga or earlier, and Yoruichi even had to lend Ichigo a special winged-item so that Ichigo could fly over to save Rukia. I guess the mangaka just decided it would be cool and started doing it randomly.

Tsunade was a lot hotter when she was younger and didn't have lipstick on (pic above). They're really stretching things out now--they've used up only 9 manga chapters to create 10 episodes (usually they use up around 2 manga chapters per episode), which is why things have been moving slower than usual lately. Considering they're already 100 chapters behind the manga, I don't much see the point...

New intro and ending. Typical—whenever the studio has no idea what to do in the ending, they always show the main character running-in-place randomly for 30 seconds. Wow, they’re suddenly killing off all their bad-guys really fast. And the Ichigo VS Grimmjow battle was lame—this show’s turning into a regular Dragon Ball Z! Plus Ichigo is spared death yet again for no reason other than the fact that he’s the main character. At least the music and animation were awesome.
